HELP! Is Fox News Fair and Balanced-#1 Cable News Network???

Anonymous
My husband constantly tells me Fox News is fair and balanced - I want to throw up! Fox News makes me physically ill, watching Sean Hannity makes me want to pull my hair out. Does anyone believe that Fox is fair and balanced and the #1 cable news network? I find it more of a form of entertainment than anything else.

It's the propaganda wing of the Republican Party. It has absolutely no commitment to traditional journalistic standards.

"Fair and Balanced" is about as meaningful a label as "All Natural" on a box of food.

Ugh. My DH told my FIL during a visit that he couldn't watch Bill O'Reilly in our home - FIL left the next day and didn't speak to us for months. I can't imagine if I lived under the same roof with a Fox News watcher.

However, he's right that it's the "#1 cable news network" - at least in total number of viewers.

I think it's a 24 hour op/ed show. Not news at all.

Oooh, I am in love with your DH.

I'm an occassional Fox News watcher, but I don't think that it's fair and balanced. In fact, I don't see how they can come to the conclusion that it's balanced when they side with the conservatives on so many issues. I agree that it's really more editorial than news. I get my daily news from Brian Williams, but if I want to hear the conservative side, I watch Fox News, if I want to hear the liberal side, I watch Keith Oberman.

I'd take him too. We solve the problem by not having Fox News on our Favorites so we never flip by it - out of site, out of mind.

So do Fox News watchers really BELIEVE that it's fair and balanced or do they just parrot what they hear?

I watch it occasionally since it seems like all the other news stations report on the same thing & have the same views. Fox News def. mixes it up a bit.

I find it interesting how if you turn it on during a weekend, the topics are totally different than msnbc & others.

It is as fair and balanced as NPR.

It is funny that liberals thinlk CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN/MSNBC/and PBS are fair and balanced and conservatives think Fox is fair and balanced. And yes Fox is #1 by far. They are more conservative tahne the others but the country is conservative in general so they are preferred by most.

Uh, CBS/NBC/ABC are each way bigger than Fox. So by your logic, the country must be liberal.

Apples and oranges, no? Free broadcast tv vs. cable news. They are definitely #1 in cable news ratings. In fact you made me curious and I looked up ratings - they have more viewers that ALL the other cable news programs combined. http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/10/22/cable-news-ratings-for-thursday-october-21-2010/69342

Totally right that the evening broadcast network news have bigger numbers: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/evening-news-ratings-2009-2010-season_b23186

Cable news/opinion lineup by audience share.

Oh, for god's sake, even an idiot knows that Fox news is biased. I am not saying that your husband is an idiot because, possibly, he is simply a reactionary and wouldn't recognize fair and objective reporting if it hit him in the face.
