Where to buy clematis locally?

I live in NE DC and am looking for clematis plants. I’ve seen them in the past at Home Depot but not seeing them this year. Where else do they have them (outside of Lowes).

To me, HD is a no-no place to buy clematis. When I’m looking for a specific variety, I go to Merrifield or other nurseries/ garden centers where they carry quality plants. Check Donahue’s Clematis website to get a good idea on the different types and varieties. You need to be well informed before stepping in a garden center.

There aren't many plant nurseries in the District. The plant sale at the Arboretum is on April 25, a vendor there may have some.

Otherwise, you need to drive out to the burbs to Johnsons, American Plant, Merrifield, etc.

Lowe’s carry many quality plants. I still have a Dr Ruppel clematis I bought at Lowe’s 9 years ago. I rescued another clematis, Bernadine, from the clearance rack. People used to tell me it was almost dead, but I gave it a chance. It’s now blooming in my patio.
