| My son will be going to the W-L prom next week. He is going with someone who does not currently go to the school, but is not his girlfriend. (ie, just a friend). He is of course buying her ticket, but do kids today still do the boutonnière and corsage thing? I get the impression that is not really common any more. I know that customs are different in other areas, which is why I’d love some input from NOVA parents who have recently been through this. My son doesn’t have a tribe of guy friends to ask. |
| YES they do and you need to pre-order it now! |
| PS- We are also an APS family. Hasn't your son gotten corsages for Homecoming? |
My son has always just shown up alone or gone with kids in his class. I told him that prom is not a dance to show up to alone so he asked a friend who graduated last year. He got the guest form signed, so that won’t be an issue. I will send him off to Company Flowers on Monday. We are funny because the one thing he has is a tuxedo, so we didn’t have to go rent one so we’ve been kind of a bit behind the curve. |

Order like yesterday.
Get her a nosegay (tiny bouquet, the florist will know) that she can carry for pictures. Don't get a corsage. The dresses have no place to pin them. |
|
Aren't the flowers now tied on the wrist like a bracelet? Who wants to carry around a nosegay, or pin something on a dress and possibly make a hole in delicate fabric?
OP, to tell the truth, prom traditions are entirely overrated and ridiculous. If he's a true friend, he'll text his friend pics of the flowers and ask for her preference (maybe she wants a certain color to match her outfit). |
Flowers have been on the wrist like a bracelet since the 80's. |
That's what I thought, but PPs were going on about pinning and holding bouquets... |
| Don’t forget to ask the date for her dress color. He needs the boutonnière to match the girl’s flowers. The store will be showing him samples- will he be able to choose? Some of the wrist corsages climb up the arm too much for me. |
Hun it’s a wrist corsage. |
The girl gets the boutonnière. Many teens in this area get a nosegay and takes pics with it. |
|
Girls like the flower bunches and do poses. It’s all over TikTok. |
No one is wearing wrist corsages. Get a nosegay. It's for pictures that's all. |

How old are you people?
The kids figure it out themselves. Yes, we pay for it but they sort it themselves. Is this back to the future? |
Yes I know but PP was talking about pinning a corsage on a dress! |
