Georgetown chances

B+ in geometry in 8th grade. All As but looking at a B+ likely for AP language. Will have 4 years of a classical language, double digit APs. Including an A in Calculus B/C as a junior.

No hooks.

Leadership position in multiple clubs (3) starting junior year.

SATs were 1420 followed by a 1510 2 months later with no classes, just self study. Is unsure if they should take again as all focus has been on APs.

Wants the Walsh school of foreign service.

What can strengthen their chances between now and November 1st? I have been honest that it is a reach.

My kid with 1520 SAT, high but not top rigor at non-DMV private with a sprinkling of B’s, strong EC’s, ORM, UMC, was deferred then waitlisted from Georgetown (liberal arts and sciences). It’s really hard to tell what a lot of colleges are looking for. Good luck!

Above poster- less than 10 AP’s, for more context.

Rats school seems to like those privileged kids that pretend to be victims.

Maybe summer internship related to major. GU is going to be on common app so it will be an interesting time.

Focus on fit to major/sfs program. Add coursework and create or strengthen ECs that align with major. Is there a particular region, language or issue where your kid demonstrates deep curiosity and exploration? Kid has all summer and early fall to dig into something they can write about on the essays. I don't remember the supplemental q's but look at them now and think about how you can answer them and what new experience might strengthen your answers. Good luck!

Agree with focusing on specific region, issue, etc. Write policy position papers, volunteer/intern with advocacy group that works in your language or with people from your region.

Well, yeah, it’s Jesuit. Jesuit values are the biggest thing to understand and communicate.
