Unnatural brows

Anonymous
Why are overdone brows a thing? I understand the lashes… even the lips. But the brows? I see so many women who pencil them in and it looks completely unnatural and harsh. Why?!
Anonymous
Because we over plucked in the 90s and they didn't grow back.

While I think they look awful on instagrammers, the full brows that normal people have look really nice in person. I now look at 90s and 2000s shows and think they look trashy with such skinny brows.

Trashy? Or just how people looked in the 90s?

I’d like to see an example of what you see as harsh. I have very sparse brows so I try to pencil them in a little but making them look unnatural is my nightmare. It’s hard to know how they look to others.

Think brows like Susan Dell.

NP. Had to Google. EEK.

I am not a fan of the overly plucked, the badly shaped (spermbrows), or the fat and wide/overdrawn with the weird straight start line by the nose. Depending on the rest of their appearance/age, you can tell if they are just older/out of fashion or younger/passing for fashion but still terrible looking.

The shape of her brows seems fine to me. I think you are reacting to the color contrast with her hair, and her dark eye makeup with light eyes. If she was a brunette, or if she didn't do heavy lower liner, the brows would be unremarkable.

(As somebody with similar coloring, it's hard to find a good taupe brow pencil.)

NP, agree her brows are way too dark for her coloring. They're also too solidly colored with sharp edges - I prefer a softer, slightly blurred look.

I also have similar coloring and like this one:

I didn't overpluck in the 90s, but my brows are naturally thin and sparse, with a couple of bare patches from childhood scars (the scars are no longer visible, but the lack of brow growth in those spots stands out). Brow pencil helps fill them in, but I use the brush side to blend it rather than having a sharp edge to the pencil line.

I just looked at a picture and now I wish I hadn’t. How does a billionaire end up with such cartoonish plastic surgery?

I think the pendulum will swing back in favor of thinner brows. My teens overdo their brows and lashes, and I tell them they’d look better more natural (though they did have very thick brows that needed shaping. I just don’t like the brow pencil abd laminated look.)

PP asked for harsh brows. She has very harsh unnatural brows. They are much thicker and darker than they used to be so it’s very unnatural looking, even for her. They aren’t her natural shape, size, or color and don’t go with her face.

Because these women likely shaved off their brows (this was a fad in the 80’s) and their eyebrows probably never grew back.

I think if I had no eyebrows I would draw them in too…since having none would look really odd.

The thing that will age you the most quickly isn’t wrinkles, gray hair or no-longer-plump lips; it’s sparse thinning brows. So people overdo it.
