| New to area - any feedback on specific clubs with good energy, competitiveness with generally satisfied players and coaches? I saw the big and smaller clubs in the area but wondering if anyone has specific team info? Though i know tryouts going on or about to start… |
| Welcome to the area. You probably need to provide more info. What cities are in range of you. What level does your daughter currently play? Is this for U15 this year or next year? |
| Where do you live? |
| Start contacting club coaches now and ask to join a practice. Tell them you are new to the area and are looking for a team. Clubs love to find someone new to the area and will gladly try to get an early look. Especially if your DD played at a high level league before. |
| Hopefully you live in MD. Most VA tryouts finished over a month ago. |
| We are in MD and she played EDP |
| Bethesda so I see BSC has most teams |
| Where in Maryland? PG? MoCo? Howard County? |
are you OP? Mu U14 DD plays in the EDP league and we have been happy. |

Bethesda 2011 and 2012 both have 4 teams and both are pretty deep. NL/EDP coaches are strong in both age groups (although there will be some changes next year -- TBD).
Potomac 2011 and 2012 Aspire teams have done well in league play, but MA North Aspire league is not very strong. These teams would slot in between 2nd and 3rd teams at Bethesda (probably closer to third). The move to Aspire has not gone well for PPA 2011 or 2012. MSI 2012 Gold is probably the trophy team for MSI's travel program - strong players and coaching. But the club doesn't have depth, so it's a big drop to 2012 Silver. MSI 2011 is not the 2012 team. I'll leave it at that. |
This is a good take. |
I assume u15, = 9th grade now. If not, ignore For edp level girl coming in, Maryland Montgomery side is sparse on real options compared to VA. Bethesda is the brand name choice. RL has not had a great league season this year losing to MD united and pipeline, however will reload and likely bounce back. Expect a deep roster, the Bethesda 11 NL team is stacked w recruited talent and overflowing roster, results driven coaches, no chance of moving up. The 3/4th teams do not get the clubs focus or the more colorful coaches, that may be good if you’re willing to pay top rates for edp level w lower commitment. Potomac 2011 aspire is the strongest age at the club, won mclean’s tournament just ahead of McLean ga. Probably one of the few descent aspire teams, ranked ahead of the bethesda RL, though haven’t played. you will have to travel to northern MD and PA, showcases and likely nationals. Don’t touch the second team until they get a new coach No other local options are close unless you drive. And even then Baltimore armour GA is not strong for the 2011’s. United is a drive for RL level soccer. Msi, juventus, others are for lower level edp and not competitive at this age. PPA and dc soccer have some serious recruiting required to become competitive next year. There are many girls driving to VA but they are on the “wrong” high school season, and no chance of making friends in high school |
Why wouldn't they make friends in high school? |
if you are moving to Maryland and play soccer in Virginia, your new teammates spending 3 nights a week won’t be likely to be classmates more nearby. Making friends after moving in HS can be hard at this age. nice to have a head start meet classmates through sports teams |
Your reasoning makes no sense. |
