| Hi, I'm looking at two options for my dad, one is very close to me, Stoddard Baptist. It has mixed reviews, but on my visits, I've felt okay about what I've seen. It is also full nursing care vs. Lisner, which has assisted living care available but not full nursing. He has dementia. But he is capable of bathing and feeding himself, walking with a walker, and enjoying company. Lisner is further away but has really great reviews and isn't the full care he might eventually need. It would be private pay until we get medicaid coverage. Any experiences with either place, and with the process of getting Medicaid to pay for either of them? He's 90. |

I don’t have any personal experience, but just about everyone in my mother’s senior apartments who ages out into needing more care goes on to Lisner. I’ve only heard good things.
Don’t know how far from your father you are now, but physical proximity is a huge help. If the two places end up being roughly equal, I’d pick the one that’s closest. My mother and I both live in DC, but a full 40 min drive apart (NE vs extreme NW) and life has a way of making it HARD to get over there. If she lived close enough to pop in for a short visit and not “long enough to make it worth the commute,” we would see each other 3x more often. And that really starts to matter when things are declining, both on a practical level and because I want to get time together while she’s still mentally healthy. |
