wasps!

For the past few days, wasps have turned up inside my house. I have removed 10 wasps this week. While I'm waiting for pest control, can someone explain why this is happening? I can't see any hive or nest, nor can I see where they're entering (or emerging). I find them by the windows and glass door and they fly right out when I open the door.

I had the same issues last year with yellow jackets. Never figured out how they were getting in.

Probably they get in the house by small outside hole and built nest inside siding or dry wall. Walk around the house and inspect.

Many years back we had yellowjackets in our house. I found they were flying in and out of area right above a bay window. What ever you do, do not restrict their outside entrance! They’ll come into your house by the boatloads. Ask me how I know. I say wait for pest control.

Wow! I am definitely waiting for expert help.

This. The whole usually is tiny, no larger than the diameter of a wasp. Hole is much smaller than a dime.

Get wasp/hornet spray and spray that as far into the hole as possible in early morning or the evening (when wasps are likely to be in their nest). That spray is toxic on contact to bees, wasps, hornets, etc.

I recommend wearing gloves when spraying. Wash all your clothing and take a shower after spraying is completed to make sure you did not accidentally get any spray on your hody. .

Well what happened because they couldn't get back in right?

Do you have a fireplace?

I do; however, it is sealed with weatherproofing materials due to draftiness. The chimney chase cover has wire mesh around it to prevent starlings from nesting there. The mesh is probably not tight enough to keep wasps out, but I don't see any behind the weatherproofing around the fireplace.

To add another layer to my heebie jeebies: we now have those fat, slow flies buzzing around. I removed/swatted 5 yesterday. I'm still waiting to hear back from my preferred pest control company. Maybe mine isn't the only house with wasps in this unseasonably hot weather?

We have a few in the house each spring because they come in doors or windows scouting. Big ones, likely queens looking for nests.

The one year they were IN THE WALL we knew because they were more, they were smaller, it was later in the the season, and eventually they were all complete white (covered in drywall powder). Exterminator fixed it immediately.

I just encountered one in my master bathroom where there’s no window. Tried to calm my panic and got creative with the way to kill it: threw Listerine and smashed it under a rug.

Household cleaning products are very effective at killing them. I keep a can of Lysol at the ready for just this reason and spray them till they are dead. They are everywhere outside too and I can't figure out where the nest is.

I plugged the bees outside entrance at night. The next day we went out for early hike and came back home to 114 dead bees in our house. It happened because they could not get outside so they made hole into our house. I sprayed drione dust into the hole to kill them and called pest control to make sure they were all done.
