How does your “walker” get to W-L if you live slightly over a mile away?

Specifically asking about kids who don't drive yet. Do they take the Arlington bus, bike, e-scooter or actually walk…?

YHS, but similar. I drive close to school then he walks the rest of the way. Tons of kids walking in the morning.

We are just under a mile. I drive her because time is tight in the a.m. Drop off a couple blocks from school to avoid the traffic. She walks home.

Same until mine could drive.

there's a great bus system in ARL.

My kid was 1.2 miles from his middle school and walked... as did all the other kids in our neighborhood.

public bus. ART and Metrobus (the local routes) are free for APS students.

We were same at Yorktown. Drove him in morning. Dropped him somewhere low traffic and he walked the rest of the way. He got rides home or walked in the afternoon.

My kid did this too in middle school.

Their natural circadian sleep rhythms really shift in high school and they can have a lot going on with ECs and homework that keeps them up later. So yes, we let our kid sleep an extra half hour in the morning and drive him to high school. He walked every day in the morning to his middle school, but he also went to bed by 9 or 9:30 and had no trouble waking up in the morning.

Walking 1.2 miles takes like 25 minutes. Driving there probably saves only like 10-15 minutes given getting into the car, pulling out, traffic, etc.

Look... you do you. If you don't want your kid to wake up a few minutes earlier to walk to school, then that's your right. But there are plenty of HS klds who can manage getting up on time to walk to school. Know any crew or swim kids?

Our walk to Yorktown is 1.2 miles and it's easily a 30 minute walk including hills, stoplights, etc. Your child is probably a power walker though! Well done! The drive to Yorktown is 5 minutes and yes it's then about 10 minutes round trip for me if I drive.

But certainly have your kids walk. People are just sharing.

Of course they can manage to walk. My kid actually swims. Ha!

Your kids are better, stronger, faster, tougher, can wake up earlier, can walk further faster.
