Azores / Canary Islands

Anonymous
Headed to the Azores and the Canary Islands in early June to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We like hiking and being outdoors which we hope to do in the Azores. For the Canary Islands, we’re looking for a more relaxed experience with maybe a fancier hotel and nicer dining. Any tips on where to stay and/or activities in either place?

We are staying in Ribeira Grande on Sao Miguel this June. I kind of wanted to stay on the western part of the island and then near Furnas to split it up, but we need the greater variety of restaurants that RG offers (and I didn't want to stay in Ponta Delgado). And it will be nice to just settle in for the week in one place. I just got an Airbnb since we are taking the teens, but the Santa Barbara resort looks nice (was out of our budget).

Probably Tenerife for the Canaries

We did canaries for honeymoon a million years ago. There’s a micro-climate rain forest there that is absolutely magical.

But beware - the roads are incredibly narrow and windy up steep steep grades with no guard rails. After lunch you may encounter locals who have had a bit to drink driving erratically. It got so that we felt like we were taking our lives in our hands every time we drove especially in afternoon and evening.

If you just want a resort on Tenerife look in Costa Adeje.
