I bought one I tried in the store and thought I liked. It’s much firmer than I recall. The store lets you exchange it for another one after 30 days. They claim this is the break-in period. I’m not sure it’s gotten appreciably more comfortable although I’m a bit more used to it.
So if you’ve returned your mattress (not one bought online), has the store been easy to deal with or do they try to talk you out of sending it back? What was your experience like? |
| We bought from Mattress Warehouse and took advantage of their return policy (which was really just an exchange policy) to get a softer mattress. |
| you have to remember that the display models are softer from being used and expect new ones to be hard. |
OP here. That’s where I got mine. It’s perhaps softened a bit, but isn’t as comfy as I’d hoped. |
| No. I ordered a relatively expensive mattress, and I don't love it, but it wasn't worth the hassle of returning either. I think they count on this. |
You have three choices. 1. put a squishy mattress pad on it to soften it up 2. wait it out because it WILL continue to get softer 3. return it for a softer mattress, but know that it will continue to get softer too. Personally I'd do 1 |
| Buy a 2" memory foam mattress topper from Amazon. It will provide immediate "comfort" while the mattress continues to soften. |
| Yes I have returned many , the cost of them are so low and profits high so I don't have any sympathy for living with a decade of back pain |
| I just did this, but it was at the end of 90 day period. It was terrible from the start. I did buy a mattress pad which did not help. I am glad I returned it - new one is much better. |
That’s good to hear. I’m worried I’m turning into the princess and the pea and might not like the next I get either…and that one won’t be returnable. |
| FWIW, for the second one I went with Saatva. They have a store in DC where you can try the mattresses. When we got the new one, it did take a while to break in and I was worried I was the Princess and the Pea (and DH joked that as well) but now it's broken in and I really like it. They also have a lifetime warranty and a year return policy. |
| Yes easy but I believe we had to pay a fee(100 or so) for the delivery of the second one. So glad I did before the trial period was over. |
| I was at a Saatva store looking at mattresses and someone came in to pick out a new mattress – because the one they had bought a month before was returned. The sales people were super kind and remembered them and went to wait on them while my husband and I continue looking. Their company sends the delivery truck to pick it up. DH joked that it was staged for them to come in while we were , because we ended up ordering a mattress from them a month later. |
This. I have never been happy with any mattress. I get a decent one from Ikea and add foam topper on it. Not driving back and forth with big mattresses, free or not. |
