Is the name Lucy now unusable because of Lucy Letby? I didn’t even know who that was until a mom friend brought her up and told me to watch the Netflix documentary (yes, I apparently live under a rock).

Why do people feel the need to bring the worst associations imaginable to your attention when you mention liking a certain name while pregnant? Lucy may be ruined for me. Sigh...

I has no idea who that is and don’t care to learn. Almost every name has some bad connotation.

I don't know who that is. I think more people who are old will reference "I Love Lucy" or Lucy from Peanuts and younger kids will say "Oh, our dog is named Lucy!"

Lucy is a great name. Go for it.

I saw that documentary and was in utter disbelief of how someone like that even exists. That woman is pure evil, but you shouldn’t let her existence deter you from using the name that you love. All names (unless super uncommon) have both good and bad individuals attached to them.

The association would be more relevant for English/British parents rather than American. She’s not American and didn’t commit her crimes in this country. I’m sure she’s more closely linked to the name over there. It doesn’t seem like it’s stopped them from naming their daughters Lucy (so far), though. Why let it stop you?

Lucy is a name for Cocker Spaniels.

Lucia nn Lucy is a wonderful name. I don't care for Lucile, but that's just a personal preference.

Lucy is one of the top dog names every year (it's what I named my first dog!) but it's cute. I'd give a longer name with the nn Lucy if I were choosing it to give options.

I have a 5 year old Lucy. Don't know who Lucy Letby is but I've never had anyone offer a negative reaction about my daughter's name

I would be more inclined to not use the name if I lived in the UK. In the US, you have nothing to worry about.

PP from above - You are not living under a rock. Her crimes are not widely known outside of the UK, even with the documentary.

What if she's innocent? I looked her name up and read that there's been some controversy among the public in the UK over the evidence presented. I don't know all of the details.
