Misinformation on A2C Reddit

Anonymous
I occasionally check that Reddit page to see if there are any relevant topics and I was absolutely blown away by the amount of misinformation and bad advice being spread by teenagers.

Examples: a teen claiming that Berkeley is much more prestigious than UChicago (come to find out, they were rejected from UChicago). Another said that nobody knows what Williams is and that they should go to their flagship for the same price. Another recommended that Northwestern would be better for pre-med than Rice (speaking about grade deflation).

All of these posts had upvotes. I’m steering clear of that forum in the future. Total prestige chasing madhouse.

What was the misinformation?

OP, DCUM posters are no more reliable. There are decent posters in both forums along with plenty who think they know more than they actually do.

Not really misinformation. In the eyes of many Asian immigrants, Berkeley is perceived to be super prestigious, certainly more so than UChicago whose lack of engineering hurts the school. To these immigrants, SLACs are a different type of animals that are little known in Asia due mainly to their lack of research prowess. Lots of the children of these immigrants are active posters on a2c and thus carry the same perception. As for Northwestern versus Rice for pre-med, they are close and it's not inconceivable that some would think highly of one over the other. These are not misinformation; they just aren't in line with OP's view.

It’s not misinformation at all. It’s a different perspective. Their perspective is not grounded in wasp ideology so perhaps it’s throwing you for a loop.

All these happen on daily basis on dcum also. These are opinions, not misinformation.

Northwestern med loves their undergrads. Rice students do better than NW students because Rice students are mostly from Texas, which is a cheat code for medicine.

As opposed to the misinformation and bad advice being spread by adults here?

NP Do Rice students do better than NW students (or most other T20 undergrads) for medical school placement outside of Texas?

OP found someone on Internet disagrees with him and starts foaming at the mouth.

That subreddit is full of international students who know very little about our university system. The great majority are poor and need substantial financial aid. So that subreddit cohort isn't representative of mainstream America.

A huge number of American students need financial aid for college. You are writing from deep inside some kind of wealthy bubble.

Yes. LOL. I now have a kid at an Ivy and one at another top20 school and there is so, so, so, so much BS spread as gospel truth on DCUM.
I'm continually like "HUH? that is completely wrong based on our experience of actually having a child at the school."

If you think A2C has disinformation wait until you see what they're putting out on DCUM

And this place is the bastion of good info, right?

This place and A2C are two sides of the same coin.
