Turbotax Free?

Wanted $200 from me. I thought it would just bump me to the $55 price for the paid downloadable version. Now I am starting over again with the oaid version. Totally ticked. Sold $10 of stock.

You can file on TurboTax for free. You have to watch what options you click. We did that for our teen. Had to do it twice because we accidentally clicked the wrong button and was charged but we backtracked and redid it for free.

We know it is the $10 from selling stock that made it not free...but it's a scam that they charge you so much more than if you just bought it to start with. Luckily we are still helping DS.

That is a targeted promotion.

That is a targeted promotion.

They do try to get you to upgrade, but if you ignore those options it's free to use and file both state and federal

The download version of TT Deluxe has all the forms of the more expensive versions, just with less handholding. Buy it early in the year for a discount on the $55 price tag

Not a target promotion. People may not realize it if you have a certain balance in Fidelity and you log on via website you get it for free for Premium edition for Fed and State.

The one thing that is misleading is they advertise a discount but if you scroll down on main page it is free. Kinda confusing if you click on wrong link you end up paying and funny they barely advertise it as if they want people not to use this perk.

Why are you mad at TurboTax? They are a for profit company providing a useful service. We gladly pay our $90 a year or whatever at Costco for the home/business version. It works great and saves us thousands from an accountant. You can use it for more than one person so we do our teen’s too (with them to teach them.)

Turbotax Deluxe bought on Amazon (you get a download code) was $44.99. If you're beign quoted $200, they've added on some servcies like "audit protection" that you dont' need anyway.

If you need to pay thousands for an accountant you likely should versus using TurboTax. A regular return from an accountant is not that high.

No nothing was added. That was the scammy part. If they just charged us the $55 no complaints. Luckily we knew it should only be 55 so we started again from Amazon.andcut was a very simple return to re enter.

Because TurboTax is one of the primary lobbyists preventing the IRS from releasing their own easy to use software. It’s such a slimy business model: make the government option worse to sell them a private solution.
