Current Events

How are you making your child aware of current events? When I was a child we had newspapers and magazines lying around that I would pick up and read. Times have changed, but my child should know that there are astronauts flying around the moon or a war going on. Any kid appropriate subscription recommendations for a 9 year old?

The Week Junior - it’s a subscription magazine. My 10 year old knows all about what’s going on all over the world because of this magazine

I have a strong reading 6 year old. Would The Week Junior be good for him? Or can anyone recommend a current events magazine for younger children?

I had a strong reading 6 year old, and while technically she could have read the magazine, I think the content would’ve been too advanced for her. At 6, most kids haven’t learned or grasped concepts like geography, which are foundational to understanding current events. Likewise, I don’t see there being a current events magazine for 6 year olds.

Current events is something that you can discuss with your six year old in an age appropriate way. There’s no need for them to read about it and not too many would be interested.

We watched both blast off and splash down at no cost using the NASA app.

Owing to young ages, we avoid many other current events.
