Macfarland school

Anonymous
Hello, is anyone in Macfarland middle school? My daughter has been in Murch elementary school, however we moved out of boundary so she lost feeder into Deal. Sadly, we didn’t match in the lottery with any good school we wanted and the last option is for her to go to Macfarland. Does anyone have experience with this school? I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks so much!

If your daughter is enrolled at Murch, I believe she can continue to Deal because of the feeder pattern rules

Hi! That’s what I originally thought when moving to different location but she lost the feeder into Deal when moving out of boundary. Per DCPs rules she can only feed into Deal if she originally got into Murch though the lottery.

If I were you, I would just enroll her.

I don’t think they keep records of who is enrolled IB and OOB, but they could be tightening it up? That would be a big change if they are actually enforcing that policy

My daughter goes to MacFarland and son did too!

Things are good. My daughter has a group of friends from several surrounding elementaries and we are friends with their families and do things together.

Son went on to DCPS selective HS.

Did your kids do the dual language track? I posted in another thread about MacFarland looking like a good option for kids in Spanish immersion charters who may not get in to DCI, ad would really like to know more about the school and its language classes.

I have friends at MacFarland who've had a good experience and their daughter is off to Walls next year. They didn't do dual language so I can't contribute on that.

Thank you so much! Maybe the school is improving? Just people reactions worried me when I mention Macfarland after Murch.

Honestly the school quality is good. The principal is good. Just a question of whether you are OK with the other kids there being around yours.

May I ask what do you mean by that? Are there behavior issues? I have to say we have been so lucky with Murch and the kids and families there, never had any issues.

This has to be a troll, right? Please send your kid to MacFarland, OP, and report back here to let us know how it’s going.

I don’t see anything wrong about my post, I’m simply and politely asking about feedback about the school from people who’s children go there and have experience. I don’t know anything about the school and that’s why I’m here, so , please let’s stop being mean over here and let’s not call it trolling.

The student population is very different than the population at Murch. There are huge percentages of needy students. More than half are at risk and almost half are English learners. Ten percent are homeless. A lot goes into serving these students.

Got it! Thank you so much for the clarification? I really appreciate it.

It has extraordinarily shitty test scores. I take the risk if it had even a small cohort of high achievers, but based on the test scores, it does not.
