Any feedback on PPA MLS Next teams?

Anonymous
Can anyone offer some insight regarding PPA's top boys teams and its culture? My son got offered a spot for next Fall, but I know very little about this club. I know that they train at several locations including Georgetown Day School, Chevy Chase and other schools in Montgomery County. I know that they will be playing in the Academy division, but know little else.
How would this club compare to the bigger ones such as Potomac or Bethesda? How is the schedule usually compared to the rest?

For future reference, it you scroll through the last 3 pages of threads, there are several threads with PPA and/or DCSC which mention these topics.

You will have to be more specific regarding compare. What age group?

For one particular age group, I would say you are actually best at PPA but the coach is better than Potomac’s and every level of Bethesda. Parent’s are fickle and then typically chase the badges so Bethesda will have the highest concentration of talent with Potomac next playing ECNL. PPA does train in DC and neither Potomac or Bethesda does.

Do you have offers for all three?

GD is a really solid coach. The 2014 group is decent. Not as strong as the current Potomac and BSC’s groups but your kid will develop there. I would attend practices to see for yourself. Both Potomac and PPA will allow that.

I had heard good things about KL with Potomac but not experienced it yet.

BSC is an aggregator more than a developer. There are many better coaches in the area in that age group than what they have on staff but they will win a lot because of the massive amount of talent.

What about boys 2011 birth year? PPA? Bethesda? Achilles? And are they prohibited from playing high school like DC United?

For 2014 age group,

Potomac is the most competitive team of the 3 at the moment. That said, 14’s are an outlier being nationally competitive at Potomac, most Potomac teams are regional.

Bethesda had an outflux of players at this age due to coaching change however will be back in a years or two due to recruiting players for MLS HG and filled with 26 kid rosters by high school

PPA or DC soccer will pick up or keep a few more a DC players w the mls branding. It’s the same coaching when these were edp teams 2 years ago.

Achilles is the other in that age/area and an outlier, some love it, and they picked up talent but be prepared to lose A lot.

All boys who are 1st team standouts at these clubs are doing lots of personal work and training outside the clubs

Ask around about CM, not staying with the 14’s will be a plus for Bethesda

KL is also the director. that group gets a lot of focus (and travel) they won Midwest ECNL and going to supercopa+. he is young and intense.

GD is good, a bit less aggressive than the others. ppa lacks the top end talent and depth of player pool.

It’s Odd to give both dc soccer and ppa mls2. Will dilute the player pool versus positioning one for HG in DC

Hit search to read all about Achilles two coaches… if son is a mid focused developing worth a look

Facts but they gave him the 2015’s which they think is a powerhouse. It will be interesting to see if he tears the them down too.

When in 2014? With the age shift, your player now either will be on a team with late-2013s or early-2015s. So it’s hard to say what your team will look like come fall, or who the coach will be (unless they told you?).

PPA U12 and U13 coach are the same next year which covers all of 2014.

Who is the coach slated for next year's u13 PPA team? Any feedback on him? Does anyone know how many times a week this team practices?
In the tryouts I believe I only say their coaching director Kofi Opare. Is he the coach?

The name of the coach is Dayon (Greene?). He coached the team this year and will coach both U12 and U13 next year.
I assume your son will be U13, as the U12 tryouts are only two weeks from now, so most of his team mates will be from the current 2014 team, which is one of PPA's strongest groups. They practice 3 times a week.

Has anyone gotten an offer yet from the April 10 PPA U13 Premier tryouts?
