Faith

Thoughts on this name? I’ve always liked the name itself and DH doesn’t mind it, but the handful of people that I’ve known named Faith haven’t been very classy (trying to say this is the least offensive way possible). It probably sounds superstitious, but that makes me nervous to use it.

Oops, that was a typo. I meant to say in*.

I love it. It reads very Christian, which would give me a little pause if I wasn’t Christian myself.

You already have negative thoughts. Use a different name

The only Faith that I know is loud, argumentative, and obnoxious. She also was a teen mom. Your assessment anecdotally checks out for me. It is a pretty name, though.

The ironic thing is that Faiths are usually atheists or not religious at all. I don’t like virtue names because the kid usually turns out to be the exact opposite of what the parents were going for.

It's often used ironically in media too, like Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

It’s up there with Tammy.

I really like it. But it's a LOT to live up to if you're not a very religious family.

Among other virtue names, Grace got WAY too popular, IMO, but I really like Hope, and that's a little more secular than Faith.

It sounds kind of redneck and potentially Southern to me. There's definitely a country bumpkin feeling there. I can imagine a country singer being named Faith.

I'm the exact opposite of the meaning of my name, but it's not a virtue name. My parents really cared about the meaning of names, too. Life is comedic like that.

With my own kids, I just decided to go with rarer names that sounded and looked nice to me. I didn't pay any attention to the meaning. That's why it always makes me laugh when people say that you shouldn't use Cameron because it means "crooked nose" or shouldn't use Mallory because it means "unlucky" or "ill-fated".

My hair stylist is named Faith.

I love virtue names. I wanted to use Grace if I had a second daughter, but by that time my first daughter new 3 Graces and was BFF with one, so . . . nope.

Agree with PP that Hope is lovely if you have a personal negative connotation with Faith (I have not encountered this "trashy Faith" phenomenon personally), and I really like Honor as a girl's name if that's not too out-there for you.

I agree with your assessment. What about Vera?

It's beautiful, OP. Don't listen to these haters. Strong and feminine at the same time. I think it's quite classy.
