UCL and the Future of EDP

Looks like the initial interest for the new UCL league in Maryland is strong -- all of the big clubs are signed up with particularly large interest at U12 and below.

Will this squeeze out EDP? Are the days of U-Little teams in VA and MD meeting in NCSL over?

yes that's the hope. No one likes EDP.

It's not just Maryland clubs. Lots of DC clubs, Delmarva Rush, and even NVSC.

Big clubs? Who specifically.

Arlington is not leaving NCSL.

All of the MLS Next clubs have their U12’s in NAL.

EDP and NCSL are two completely separate leagues. What are you even talking about? The clubs prefer NCSL because it handles all the scheduling and the games are relatively convenient ("DC area"). EDP games are farther flung, a lot less convenient, the scheduling is a real hassle.

Why would NVSC join an org based in Maryland? They are all the way out in Prince William. NCSL games are much more convenient for their families.

I don't think NCSL is going anywhere. But if the UCL league looks promising, sure some teams will leave EDP or NCSL for it.

It does seem like a lot of clubs are fed up with EDP. Up 95, most of the PA/NJ clubs play in Acela League now instead of EDP at the younger ages.

We have the most chill TM ever and the one season we did EDP he was seriously irate. Having to bring cash to the games was a real hassle. And scheduling every thing yourself when clubs don't give access to field space.

Some MD and DC clubs play NCSL - especially at the younger ages. If UCL gets traction, it relegates NCSL to a VA league rather than a regional league.

What is this UCL you speak of?

Teams of NCSL level having to travel less, that seems like a positive.

I agree! Just Nova would be fanastic. Everyone whose kid plays ncsl knows its not an elite level league. No one wants to drive all the way to DC (parking is such a hassle at those little rec centers) or Maryland when they could get the same level game ten minutes down the road.

Hah, a couple times a TM has had to do the whole begging for cash because they didn't have it on them. Of course it was reimbursed, but not a great look. Same with the schedules.
