RSM Competition Math Reviews?

Anonymous
My DD is in 4th grade and has been doing RSM for the past 3 years. She got placed into the RSM Competition Math class for 5th grade. They said there are three different levels of that and she got into the highest one. Does anyone have any experience with it and the different levels for competition math? Shes been in Honors RSM the past two years. She wants to do both classes but I want to make sure she can manage that because of the time commitment.

We've been doing RSM online so I don't know alot of parents in my area that are also doing it. We don't have a center nearby.

Yes, my 4th grader did it this year. It's completely different from regular class - the math is puzzle math (for example, look at the types of problem here: https://contest.rsmfoundation.org/StudentPortal/oly/welcome

The homework is also different, it's about 5-10 problems and at least for our kid, takes so much less time. We dropped the regular class though, but I wish we could have kept it. The cost is about the same, compt. class is a little higher, I think $300. he absolutely loves it and we will be continuing with it for next year.

My son did it for 1 year, and he enjoyed it (as much as one can enjoy a second EC math class). But after years of RSM, that was our last year. We switched to a smaller group class, and that's been more appropriate for him. With the smaller class size the teacher can really meet each kid where they are. The class size in RSM was way too large (in the honors class, not competition) and DS and some other kids would wait around for others to catch up. All of this to say, if I could go back, I would just find a smaller group math class and just do that instead of RSM Honors+Competition.
