NCAP Holton

People on here rave about the NCAP program at Holton. Can anyone on here attest to whether it's worth the drive from McLean (compared to other swim programs in Northern Virginia)? Does anyone do it and what's the traffic like at that time?

NCAP Holton is great but there is zero chance I would trek from McLean for it, because I don’t know that you can avoid using 495 to get there. Also note that Holton tracks to AU, so if your swimmer was high performing they would go from Holton to AU when they are 13. No chance would I trek from McLean to AU either. Here is the link to the information about Holton’s site, which includes this season’s practice times.

We went through Holton and it was amazing but AUs program for older kids is awful

Agreed. We considered it, then picked a location that didn't shift pools and avoided a long commute to practice.

We are also looking at Machine. Which Machine location has the best coaching for medium good but not top swimmers?

The drive to Holton is doable from Langley/McLean/GF/ parts of Falls Church. The drive to AU would be a lot less fun.

AU has great coaching and a strong senior program with a great track record. Someone on here has a bone to pick and mentions it every time they come up.

In rush hour? Definitely not worth it for 12 and under swimming.

They also do one morning practice at week at AU so you’re going to AU even before 13

I would go to Machine at Chesterbrook with Coach Blair and Coach Evan.

They have morning practice out in north Potomac in the colder groups at AU so that will be rough from VA

And you do know something like seven swimmers moved from NCap AU in the last year, right? Does not say good things

NCap Prep has the most elite insane parents. Olympic Trials levels of unhinged.

Did you think they were going to take a DCUM gap year?

Why would you even bother with that drive? Many good options for you without crossing the river.
