Virus scan for new laptop

What the reccomendation these days?

I find the MS virus scan fairly competent. You can also add the free Malwarebytes.

Get a Mac. Don’t download or click on anything. Routinely check recently added apps and downloads. No need for virus software.

Not paying Apple prices for something only used occasionally. Never actually had a virus just wanted to know what people are using currently.

Just don’t click on any links that you aren’t 100% sure of, and review recently downloaded apps and downloads frequently.
I think anti virus scans/programs are scams.

Is this a lot better these days?
MS itself (windows) used to have all the vulnerabilities and all the attacks targeted at it. Seems difficult to believe they have made it safer on their own.

I've been happy with Webroot. A relative who works in IT recommended it.
