| My kid has been playing lacrosse for a few years and got into basketball last year. She's played in two rec basketball leagues and is interested in joining a club. My concern is she's already 12 (almost 13) and most kids who are on club teams have been playing for years. What is the skill level of the 2nd, 3rd, and maybe 4th level teams at a club? Thanks for the information. |
| Some teams are formed at 2nd grade and hard to break into since coaches have known these kids for a bit. I believe that Stars only field one team a grade. Also you just missed AAU tryouts. If you want to break into a team in would 1. Advance training at evolution. 2 try to find a team that is short players- usually those teams are not very good. When I mean not good, it could be a waste of your time. Also in the fall you can trying out with FCYBL. Meet coaches that way. Talk to any of your opponents coaches about opportunities. They will be flattered. |
| At 5th grade this year (so, age 11-12), Elevate has 3 teams. I believe the C team is new this year. There is meaningful drop off from the B team to the C team. |

We have played the “C” team mentioned above. We beat them. But I would say the players were decent. Most of the kids we recognize as D1 and D2 FCYBL players who played in the Fall. These kids will be much better than the kids you see in you town house league.
At the age Vogues went from 3 teams to 2. Stars went from 2 teams to 1. Elevate seems to picked up some of these kids to form their C team… |
AAU is so watered down these days that most B/C teams are barely above rec level. But beyond that, if your daughter wants to get good at basketball she has plenty of time to leapfrog more experienced players by the time she enters high school. With her lacrosse experience she likely has the athleticism and spatial awareness that will translate easily to basketball. |
I heard they have four teams. A team, two B teams and one C team. The last team- Marks- is not a new team. Please correct me if I am wrong. I think all the EE are all good teams, well coached. |
Marks is not a new team. It was last year's Silver team and many of the players play together year-round. McNicoll is a new team. I don't think there is a fourth team but I could be wrong. |

I have a kid on Hurricanes team that has played them…
There are 3 teams for 5th grade. Elevate Gold Wu Elevate Silver Marks Elevate Silver McNicoll Marks was the silver team from last year. McNicoll is a new team. Also a Silver team, but slotted below Marks. Marks was the better team by a bit. Mcnichol is a good coach. He coaches an older Elevate team as well and McLean D1 FCYBL. Marks coached Great Falls FCYBL. I hope this helps… |

We played the Elevate 5th grade Marks team this weekend in a ShotsUp tournament. We are a relatively new team and they killed us. They won the entire tournament as well. So I don’t feel too bad about losing to them. They were super aggressive on defense. Jab enot seen the other two 5th grade teams yet.

It's a bit too late to join these clubs. There may be an opportunity to tryout for a a summer league team. These teams are your usual suspects (Stars, Elevate, Vogues, Flexx, Team Attack, ETC) + local select/travel teams. I would also advise to basketball summer camps + small group or private training to get ready for fall/winter season. |
