Eating Recovery Center - ARFID

Anonymous
Does anyone have experience with the Eating Recovery Center in general but specifically for ARFID? I have been trying to find anyone who could see my tween in person and the options seem incredibly limited. This place looks a little “for profit” to me but I am not finding much else. Montgomery County location

I don’t have any experience with the Eating Recovery Center, but in MD, I’d recommend the Renfrew Center.

I'm not familiar with this area, but my niece needed to travel from Seattle to California for treatment. There are very few centers and even fewer with slots available.

Thanks for the replies. We are not interested in in patient or traveling at this point, nor do I think my child would meet the criteria for that level of treatment. We are looking for someone local and would appreciate any leads

DP. I am also looking for leads - whether it is a center or a private therapist, a licensed nutritionist, or other suggestions.

Could be AFRID specific or just generally someone who supports getting increased nutrition in.

Op here and if you are open to working with a dietitian I came across Dr. Daisy in Bethesda who seems to possibly be an option. We were specifically looking for a CBT approach and while she says she utilizes CBT I am not sure her training is going to be adequate for my child. But we may try if we absolutely cannot find any other options.

My teen has ARFID and I know of no treatment that has actually worked, so we have relied on gummy vitamins and daily protein/vitamin drinks like Pediasure.

OP and PP, I am a registered dietitian but do not specialize in eating disorders. This is a complicated situation that, in my opinion, requires a care team approach. I would look for an RD who partners with a mental health provider as both disciplines are needed here.

Good experience with ERC in Towson. Bethesda office wasn’t open when we were in the thick of things. DC had anorexia not Arfid, but a couple of kids in the PHP group at some time with it. . That said it all so hard to deal with and hugs. Best resource on EDs for parents we found : https://feast-ed.org/

Also put heavy cream in everything to get dense high calories up. One of the better actual tips.
