My friend fled Iran. Her mother and sister still live there; they went to Tehran on June 13 to visit extended family. Last week they got trapped in the city and couldn't flee

Of course my friend - who hates the Iranian regime - is super scared for her mother and sister. Iran shut down the internet, social media, and most foreign communications a week ago. Many of the Persians in the US have not heard a peep from their family members at all over the past week.

Nope. It wasn't Trump who started the riots in LA. He simply responded to it. And, thankfully he did. I have little doubt that these rioters would have severely damaged or destroyed the federal buildings the NG was there to protect. And, who knows how many injuires or deaths would have resulted.
The NG presence allowed the LAPD to concentrate on the maniacs who were there to cause destruction.

Even the LA police said it was too much for them to control.

Gavin Newsom is the Commander in Chief of the California National Guard. Why can't he simply order them to go home. There are still 2000 CNG members deployed to LA.

The President of the United States is Commander in Chief of the DC National Guard. Why couldn't Donald Trump simply have ordered them to the Capitol on January 6, 2021? Why does he say he needed Nancy Pelosi's permission?

Yes Trump absolutely did start it. The riots didn't just spontaneously evolve out of nothing like vermicelli in a glass jar. The riots happened because of heavy handed tactics of unidentified ICE goon squads terrorizing communities.
