DD 15 has a good friend group now, which is a relief because she didn’t really as a freshman last year. The group is mostly girls, with one boy who as I understood is gay. Obviously no problem with that, it’s 2026! But i fear DD is TOO enthusiastic about it. She often says things like “I’m so glad I have a gay friend” or other statements to that affect. Isn’t this a little demeaning? WWYD?
I think you’re overthinking this
15-year-olds overact all sorts of things like that in my experience. Just listen to them talk to each other. They are so dramatic and have no sense of perspective.

If you'll excuse the broad, and potentially offensive, categorizations, she's a normie proud to show she's broad-minded by having a token quirky friend. As evidenced by your little comment: "Obviously there's no problem with that, it's 2026!". She's learned from you that "there's no problem with that"... with all the tacit social expectations underpinning that sentence. For her, this is risqué.

I would comment to her that there’s more about him than just being gay, and ask about those things.
