Bought a house in Herndon that is under South Lakes HS pyramid. The new Skyview/Western HS had released 4 options A/B/C/D and the house was under Skyview pyramid in all of them. We made our decision based on those proposed options since South Lakes was not our choice. In the latest FCPS boundary meeting, they indicated that South Lakes boundary will not change. That means Options A/B/C/D don't mean anything anymore.
Would you convince us to go ahead with staying in the house or should we consider selling in a few years and moving to a different HS pyramid? Kids are a few years away from HS age.
Is South Lakes an okay school and am I overthinking all this?

I don't know anything about the schools you are discussing, but if your kids are several years away from HS, I would not be thinking about this now. There are so many things that could change.

If the classes you want are offered then the HS you are in matters a lot less than who you kids are. Your kids can get a good education anywhere there are enough kids to offer the classes they need.

S Lakes is a very good school and your kid will be fine as long as you get your courses.

It's definitely an okay school. Once your kids are in middle school, you'll know if it will suit their particular needs for high school. That said, the Skyview boundaries haven't been determined, and I wouldn't believe any statements that certain boundaries won't be affected.

OP said does not want South Lakes HS. With that as a given:

Wait until the final boundaries settle, then move if desired.

Or move now, but move far away from the South Lakes HS boundaries.

Since you just moved in, I would move again in a few years. That will be harder for your children to have to reestablish themselves again. If you want to move, move now or don’t move at all.

What do you not like about South Lakes ? Would you prefer an AP high school?

Since you just moved in, I would NOT move again in a few years. That will be harder for your children to have to reestablish themselves again. If you want to move, move now or don’t move at all.

What do you not like about South Lakes ? Would you prefer an AP high school?

AP is preferred. Our first choice was to be within Oakton/Chantilly but none of the houses/prices worked out. Chose this house because we were misled by the Skyview/Western options A/B/C/D and assumed we would be under Skyview pyramid for sure (Skyview is going to be AP). South Lakes is not as highly rated as Oakton/Chantilly and doesn't offer AP. We hope South Lakes is not really as bad as it is thought to be because moving once again in a few years will be a big pain on many fronts.

Would be really stupid to base a housing decision based on preliminary boundary options that were always subject to revision. Hard to take this post seriously.
