Random drug testing for prevention

Drug use is rampant at schools. I’m thinking about giving my child drug tests even though I don’t suspect anything to orevent him from trying in high school since we are currently dealing with his brothers drug use. If I had tested him I’d have found out sooner.

Yes, we random test weed and nicotine. They have urine tests in any drug store and online, Amazon etc...

Wow, I hate that idea. I can understand where you’re coming from because of your experience with your other child, but I would rather have frequent, open communication. I guess if I really felt like drug use was likely, I would talk to my kid, tell him that you regret not learning earlier about other DS’s drug use, and get his consent.

I had open communication with my other kid and he hid the drugs well. I had no idea.

The problem is that it’s yes/no and has the possibility of being wrong. It won’t tell you how often, whether the only time was two months ago or if it’s been everyday for 2 months. And worse, you might believe there’s no problem if it gives a negative result when it should be positive, and you could push your teen to do it depending on your reaction to a false positive.

It's super messed up for a normal relationship with no signs of something happening. Like making your daughter show you her bloody pad every month to prove she's not pregnant when she's a not dating, normal 8th grader. Effed.
