Is this something I should be looking into for next year? My DD is grad year 32 so not eligible but seeing on the club Insta that a couple of her teammates who play on the 31 team were selected to play. Hard to keep up with what try-outs to attend or not.

That's a definite maybe. It's a top 10 summer event come recruiting year. Lots of coaches. But players have been worn out by the late July schedule slot.

At the Middle School level, it is one of the few options to compete with and against some of the best players in the class. Stay in Rehoboth and enjoy a day or two at the beach before or after. Can be fun.

That said--it's expensive, hot, parking is ridiculous, and DC-VA doesn't tend to do very well. So, pros and cons.

Good point about being worn out by late July, and just realized too this directly conflicts with summer swim end of year meets. She would likely have to miss that, which is fine, but I am not sure the tradeoff is worth it at this stage, especially in middle school. It just feels a bit early to be stressing about which college coaches might be there.

Definitely too early to worry about coaches. No one watching until their Sophomore year--rising Junior year summer. Only for fun and the experience at your DD's level.

As long as your daughter wants to do it and you have the time I highly recommend it. For many girls it's the first chance to play on a team outside of their club. Also the first chance to meet and make friends with the athletes they will compete against and possibly with when they are college age. Blending into new teams/showcases/camps will be CRUCIAL down the road. It's a skill like any other and starting things like AS early, while its just a fun event is low hanging fruit IMO. Great experience.

Yes, tryout and get in early. Kids who do well will continue to get invites.

Agree - if your daughter wants to do it and you can make it work in your schedule things like AS are extremely helpful. No, you aren't getting recruited this young but the poster above is right. It is important to play with people outside of her club or school team. It's a skill they need to learn just like everything else.
