Where would YOU attend if you (the parent) could choose any school as a freshman in 2026? And why?

Just curious. It's fun to see the schools that parents identify with or fall in love with through their kids' college process.

In the recent past, I would have said Harvard, since I was always fascinated by it. But, everything with Epstein and the billionaire class has me now at a hard no.

Either a girls school or someplace like UM because of the school spirit.

Pomona, Colorado College, or WI

Duke. Fun school with strong academics and a great fit for DC.

Fun! Two tours appealed to me. One was BU..living in a brownstone in an amazing location and walking to Fenway using student tickets. On the Washington and lee tour they mentioned I could take a hike or go fly fishing before class!

Haha yes — I also got real estate envy thinking about living in those brownstone upper-year dorms at BU! So special!

The schools that I really liked while touring with DCs were Brown and Carleton. The former didn't appeal to me back in the 80s for reasons I don't even remember now (although we looked at it on a gloomy winter day), and the latter just wasn't on my radar back then because I wanted to stay on the east coast.

Penn- this was to be a recruited athlete and the coaches, the facilities, team members- everything was so nice. Plus being at an Ivy League in the city would have totally appealed to me as a teenager. While DD did not choose this school- it became high on the list after the visit. We were all impressed. It was my choice but she picked something else (which is totally ok because it is her college experience!)

I don't think I could deal with 4 years of Wisconsin winters. Visited one of their smaller campuses with DD in February for athletic recruiting and that was a reality check.

Maybe UC Boulder? I'm way more outdoorsy now than I was when I was a college student.

Only have tours to go off of, but I was enamored with Yale. The tour guide was incredible, loved the architecture, and I dig the merch bulldog. However, now this I have a kid there I’d switch it to Brown. I love the size, energy, and student body. My son’s friends are so interesting, charismatic and humble. I just really like the do what you’re passionate about and supportive vibe, makes for a nice a nice academic environment.

I had an absolute blast at a flagship, but in my imaginary do-over I’m going to be an academic I never had the chops to be. 😊
