55YO.....Dentist pushing Invisalign on me!

Anonymous
55YO female here. Dentist pushing Invisalign on me. She says xray show "microfractures" which will worsen with age resulting in
tooth loss, something do do with my bite pressure placement, etc. I have bad teeth but no issues with bite, pain, etc. She is an Invisalign "partner" so wondering if this is just a money grab. Our kids got Invisalign when they were younger so always was of the understanding Invisalign was to correct teeth crooked teeth, etc. Ignore or seek second opinion?

Always consult an actual orthodontist and not just a dentist on this stuff.

This, for sure.

I haven’t used Invisalign myself, but looked into it once when my dentist brought it up. One of the things I also read is that, if you do decide to use Invisalign, you should always do it through an orthodontist.

This! Always, always consult specialists when it comes to your teeth! General dentists are NOT orthodontists, endodontists, periodontists, prosthodontists or surgeons. Generals dentists can do twice yearly exams, fillings and basic cosmetic stuff. Do not let them do extractions, root canals, implants orthodontia, etc.

See an orthodontist for a second opinion.

FWIW, I had braces as a teen but my teeth drifted and I benefitted from doing Invisalign in my 40s. I did it for cosmetic reasons, but it also corrected imperfections in my bite and improved my mild TMJ. I still wear my retainers at night 20 years later.

I’d never get it from a dentist no matter what.

I know a several 50+ invisalign wearers. Just ignore or get another opinion. You still have a free will.

Money grab.

I would change dentists.

They must make bank on Invisilign. Over $5000 for a couple dozen pieces of plastic that probably cost pennies to make.

She sounds like a scam artist. If your jacked up teeth don't bother you, then why fix them? They won't get better though. only more crowded as you age.

Second opinion.

Dentists are notorious for upselling unnecessary procedures.
