My DD is lovely - but her wish list is not aligned with what we will be giving her.

We were thinking something no more than $500 - she is thinking a necklace over 1K.
At this age, brands matter and I told my DH that getting a dupe would not be what she wants so we should not bother spending the $ on it.

Any gifts ideas from parents with daughters in the 17-20 age range for what is the hot trend that is under $500.

DD wanted a Garmin watch for her 18th birthday this month, a pair of Birkenstocks, a pair of New Balance sneakers, and lots of press on nails.

$500 seems like a good price range for 18. Concert tickets? Spend a day at the spa? concert tickets?
The reason we are spending more is because she getting a car, and its a graduation, birthday gift.

I'd say ask her. Say you want to get something for around $500 and that $1K is too much. At this age they know what they want, the necklace is not the only thing she wants.
