| DD got into Caltech last week and is committed. It was her top school. She has applications in at a number of other schools including Penn, Brown, Harvard, and Princeton. We also have two more coming up in two years and four. She wants to know how she did (the applications were a lot of work!!) but I'm wondering if she gets accepted and then says no if it could effectively burn a bridge with the school. And is pulling the app this late even helpful? |
|
I really don't think they care, OP.

1. The colleges won’t care.
2. You need to encourage her to do the selfless thing and pull the apps. Someone wants her seat and would much rather have her now than after May 1/WL. |
|
The schools don’t care; it will not affect your younger kids.
Unless it’s ED, there is no moral failing in leaving the apps in to see how she did. |
| If you need financial aid I might leave them in and see what packages you get. I actually got the best financial aid from a reach school. |
| They won't care. No harm in keeping her apps, as you've already paid the $$ and they've already decided. Someone will eventually take her spot if she is accepted elsewhere. |
Are you assuming because your kid got into caltech and she will get into all the other schools? |
What's the point of this post? The school is selective and has a 2-3% acceptance rate. Seems relevant. |
|
It would be nice to do this for your child's classmates.
There is no way these schools are organized to track a current declination to a future kid. |
| It’s not a one in, one out folks. They accept a lot more kids than slots. Unless ED you absolutely can keep in app open to see how she does! I would encourage mine to. It will have no bearing on future siblings. Congrats. Caltech is a big get! Enjoy CA!! ☀️ |
| Don’t. The RD decisions have already been made internally, as the latest RD outcomes will be released by next Friday. |
| Colleges won't remember. Your high school counseling team will. |
It's so late in the cycle. I think you can email the counseling team, Susie is so excited about CalTech. Can't thank you enough for your guidance on this path. We're curious about other outcomes and , if accepted, having competing aid offers may be helpful. But she's committed to CalTech and if you think pulling these other apps at this point would be helpful for her classmates, let us know and we'll pull them. They'll say don't worry about (it's too late) and you'll get the same bonus points w them |
