Oldest child will be going to kindergarten uptown in the fall and we are a downtown family with younger preschool children down here.
We're now staring down several years ahead of opposite commutes for school dropoff, and wondering if it's totally out of the question to try to get the younger ones placed in an uptown preschool off-cycle? Obviously we could apply in the fall for the following year, just wondering if there's any wiggle room from now til Sept? Very happy with our current downtown school, so we'd be targeting preschools that would make the disruption worth it, albeit way harder for off cycle. 92NY, Episcopal, All Souls, Brick Church, etc. Wondering if it would help at all that our oldest is starting a 2T/TT school so their siblings theoretically have an easier K exmissions ahead? Is that attractive to a preschool? Feel free to tell me I'm naïve and it's impossible

I moved siblings to a different preschool to make the (hopefully long-term) k-12 commute easier. Are you trying to move sibling(s) for next year? That might be hard, but can't hurt to call around and see if anywhere has spots if you're willing to walk from your current school/deposit.
We waited and applied in the fall and got into almost much every preschool we applied to (included several on your list). I'm sure the sibling in a TT co-ed was a part of the equation for the preschools. |
| Clearly I haven't had enough caffeine this morning. What a writing sample. HAHA |
| We have friends who did this, but like the prior poster, they applied during the typical application cycle for the next fall. |

Are you and your spouse both oldest siblings?
Because you are really prioritizing your oldest child here. Making your younger child switch schools and travel all the way uptown rather than stay closer to home at a familiar school. |
Oh I missed this potential nuance. I assumed they were moving uptown. OP, we moved neighborhoods and that’s why we applied to new preschools for the sibling. |
