Tired of being scammed and overcharged

Anonymous
From car repair, dental work, home/lawn ..to just about any service, depending on your Google search - quotes are a free for all. I am tired of being quoted prices based on my zip code or profession or what is perceived that I can afford. This applies across the board - where did honesty and integrity go?

Same. It's exhausting.

Especially unhappy about dentistry at the moment, which OP mentioned. But yeah -- all of it.

Isn't your dentist only practicing in one zip code? How do you know they charge others less? Or do you mean you pay more for dental work than your sister in Iowa does, which would be explainable, yes?

I agree with pp, can you provide specifics.

What? Dentistry is known for unethical upsells -- it's a thing. This nonsense about zip code that you are on about makes no sense. Plenty of issues without anyone trying to "charge others less."

So much fraud in dentistry. Lots of "you have a cavity we need to fill" on perfectly healthy teeth.

This is the American way. Everyone is just out to make a buck any way they can. The kids are starting to figure out how empty and meaningless this way of life is, which is why we’re doubling down on the anti-socialist propaganda.

We really need to do some renovation work on our house but I emotionally can't get myself to get the ball rolling because I dread dealing with contractors to get quotes that I assume will basically be pulled out of a hat.

Example I had an oil leak and my service consultant sent me the evaluation video with “everything looks good except this part, I’m afraid it is labor intensive”, to the amount of $6100. I said to forget it, I’m going to pull my car and put a cardboard box underneath it. After going back and forth with the price, each time going lower - he asked, “what would you be willing to pay?” racket

I know that some patients are charged different amounts based on their occupations, charging more to the lawyer, ex

I went though 3 dentists before finding our current one. He does not take insurance (but you can submit yourself for reimbursement) but I am convinced the money I have saved on not getting everyone unnecessary fillings has more than covered the cost, not to mention the time and damage to teeth.

Calm down, Louise. OP mentioned zip codes. She didn't mention dentistry, so wondering how the above fit in with her rant? Shocker that it's too testy in here.
