| Does DCPS ever do early dismissal for weather? Monday afternoon is looking rough. |
| It's going to be 72 degrees out and raining. Why would that require early dismissal? |
Because of rain? |
| Not a chance. Even if there are tornados, that's going to be very localized even in a district as geographically small as DC. If a tornado warning is happening somewhere, that school will just shelter in place. |
This. |
You think tornado warnings impact geographic areas so small they contain a single school? |

If a school goes into lockdown for weather, you might not be able to get your kids for hours. Better we close early. |
Keep your kid home if you are scared of wind. |
| MCPS announced they are monitoring and will update in the morning if activities are canceled or if there will be an early dismissal. DCPS and others are probably reviewing as well. |
I thought the concern was tornadoes. |
| I think the timing (4pm-6pm) makes early dismissal wise. Definitely after school events should be cancelled. People need to be off the roads and home if possible. |
exactly this |
No because of a dangerous storm outbreak between mid-afternoon and early evening with violent wind gusts, hail and tornadoes in addition to torrential rain and lightning. Hopefully, it turns out to be just rain, but with alerts escalating, schools need to prepare. |
| Capital Weather Gang is being pretty strong worded in their wording re: this storm. Not just tornadoes but strong winds can mean heavy objects blowing around and trees falling on cars or people. |
