Bad,later-in-life seasonal allergies

Anonymous
Today I've had the worst sore throat that started in the middle of last night (like tons of cotton in mouth, hurts), chills in the morning, nose dripping all day. No fever. Anyone else get this kind of thing, which 99% sure allergies? Any advice about what to do indoors to make throat feel better during the night/tomorrow? I seem to have started getting seasonal allergies in mid-40s.

The humidity is 16% right now.

I personally wouldn’t assume that chills and a severe sore throat was allergies. I’d suggest trying an antihistamine or another allergy medication. I’ve had good luck with Astepro nasal spray, which works quickly. If it helps, then that’s great. If it doesn’t help, then it might not be allergies.

I appreciate it.

Allergies are not chills. Sorry.

Non drowsy claritin and a sweater. It got cold again after the nice warm up!

You’ve got the beginnings of this nasty virus that’s hitting everyone right now. This is exactly how it starts. Drink lots of water and get lots of sleep! Feel better.

I had this recently, it sucks. Please rest as I didn't and it got much much worse, like sleeping 12 hours a day, horrible coughing, and losing my voice entirely and feeling like I got hit by a truck for a week.

Probably not allergies. Get a humidifier for your bedroom and rest.

+1 - I had this. And to the poster that says it's not allergies, maybe not, but at the end that is the medication that has finally worked.

Here's my experience - over a period of six weeks I had three episodes that started with extreme body aches, sometimes chills, and then just feeling like I was hit by a truck. The second episode was the worst - the first day I was barely able to get out of bed. I was short of breath, dizzy, but no persistent cough or major head cold type issues. Cough was when i was upright, didn't persist, and was not productive.

The third time I then had upper respiratory symptoms that are the same as I have had with major seasonal allergy attacks - runny nose and eyes, feeling deadheaded, again a dry cough. These lessened with Flonase, zyrtec, and Benadryl at night.

I'm hopeful that I'm over this. Have tested negative twice for Covid, Flu A/B, and RSV and bloodwork didn't reveal anything else. I am beginning to suspect it's this:

If it is just allergies, it may be perimenopause. I had no allergies until 45 and then was hit hard with allergies plus everything else.

Update: still have it, and to the poster who wrote this (https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1317056.page) - yes, there are similarities. Importantly, I'm resting, staying away from people. I also agree with above poster who experienced being hit hard with allergies in perimenopause. I can relate to this, but am unclear if this is solely it or not.
