DD made it to the final round for an academic scholarship (full ride). The application asked for a letter of recommendation and several essays.
For the final selection round she had an interview and took a test. Decisions are coming out in a few weeks and I feel like it would be helpful if she wrote some kind of continued letter of interest to the scholarship committee. When I mentioned the letter to her she acted like I had suggested the most ridiculous idea ever. Should I continue to push her to write the letter? Am I out of line? We are not rich and could really use the scholarship. |
| She should write the letter. |
| No |
This. --On several scholarship committees |
| Don’t submit extra materials they haven’t requested. That shows an inability to follow instructions and willingness to put more on people’s plates when they haven’t asked for it. |
| But - she can reach out to her admissions officer with a question - and drop in how much she appreciated the opportunity to learn more about (insert name of school) during the scholarship weekend. |
She should have used the interview to show interest. A letter is not the way to navigate this situation |
| OP here. Thank you for the responses, I'm glad I asked. I will not have her write a letter. |
