I thought I posted about this yesterday but cannot find the thread. I’m interested in hearing about the TWA Hotel at JFK. Did you find it fun? Would kids and a teen?

Have never stayed there but have friends who have. It's a really cool place in the public spaces. The rooms are not special and the price /service is apparently awful.

| It’s an airport hotel. How would that be fun for teens? |
It’s a themed hotel that does have activities:
The TWA Hotel at JFK offers a nostalgic 1960s experience, featuring Connie, a restored 1958 Lockheed Constellation airplane turned cocktail lounge on the tarmac. Activities include playing a life-sized game of Twister, ice skating at the Roll-A-Rama, swimming in a rooftop infinity pool, exploring aviation exhibits, and visiting a 1960s-style hair salon. Key Activities & Attractions: Connie Cocktail Lounge: Sip drinks inside a 1958 propeller plane, which has served as an Alaskan bush plane and features authentic cockpit controls. Twister Room: A dedicated space featuring a large-scale version of the classic 1960s Twister game. Roll-A-Rama Skating Rink: A seasonal, retro outdoor roller skating rink located near Connie on the tarmac. Rooftop Pool & Observation Deck: A heated infinity pool and observation deck offering views of runway 4Left/22Right. Immersive Exhibits: Explore Howard Hughes's office, Eero Saarinen’s briefing room, and 37 vintage TWA uniforms from 1945 to 2001. Sweet and Glow Salon: A 1960s-themed salon. Photo Booth: A complimentary, vintage-style photo booth. |
I don't know if a kid would enjoy or appreciate it? They've probably never even heard of TWA. It does look neat though- like stepping back in time. All that would be missing is people dressed up and ashtrays everywhere. I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there, but if i needed a hotel at JFK, it looks like a fun option. |
Apparently they have that also - actors dressed in 1960s apparel based on reviews. They had or currently have. https://kitchenconfidante.com/twa-hotel-review-jfk-international-airport |
| Grandkids live in NY and we have booked a room for a day and used the pool. It's also open in the winter. We loved it. |
| Are your kids Instagram influencers? If not, I'd probably skip. |
| It's awesome. Stayed in January. There is a rooftop pool (heated in winter and yes we did it), a fake Howard Hughes office and beauty shop to do photo ops in, a display of old TWA uniforms, cafe, restaurant, bar, etc. Plus the best oldies soundtrack I ever heard. 100 percent recommend. |
| We've stayed twice with kids in elementary school and loved it. Went swimming, made calls from their old school pay phones which my kids had never used before (!), did the photo booth -- all free. And generally had a blast exploring the old plane, the lobby area, etc. It's also a real treat to just be at the airport if you're flying the next day. |
| My kids loved it, and they don’t get excited about many things like this. |
