Has anyone been following this story? Accusations of abuse and exploitation of staff were no stranger to the owner of the famed Noma restaurant in Copenhagen, but matters seem to have come to a head with a damning report published in NYT which graphically details the chef’s misdeeds. He is set to open a sold-out $1500/plate pop-up in LA that is now catching a lot of heat, and has announced that he is stepping away.

| Overrated “genius”. The emperor clearly has no clothes. |

Apparently everyone knew but the Danish government didn't do anything because victims were mostly foreigners, and a lot of them were terrified of being blackballed from their profession if they said anything...
... I guess it's time for the Kitchen Reckoning. Just like in other professions. |
| He's been a toral nightmare for years so am not surprised and don't think he has changed, just facing an overdue reckoning. Good. |
| So much for the strong EU labor laws. |
| I never thought he was a genius. I did dine there in the early years and while my dinner mates raved over him and the food, I thought he was arrogant and his food was too bizarre. Even as an art form, it was unappealing. Give me Loaves and Fishes any day. |

Sometimes your squid with poppy seeds comes with a side of institutionalized torture I guess.
The place always gave “The Menu” vibes. |

$1500/plate for a single dinner? 😮
Time for another French Revolution! |

I’m sorry to read this, but I’m also not surprised that a perfectionist chef is short tempered and runs a high pressure environment. I didn’t expect the punching and choking.
I have one of his cooking books and enjoy reading it. |
| Is there any famous chef who isn't a complete a-hole? |
He's Danish. |
Are there important restrictions on tumbrels? |
Isn't this pretty common in the world of fine dining? |
I had the same experience. It was cool to look at, but I didn't really enjoy eating it very much. Definitely a one time only thing and I wouldn't say that about other top restaurants. |
| This reminds me a bit of the "Me Too" Movement. Women were willing to go along with sexual harassment when it was good for their career, but then rose up in outrage once their career had already benefitted. If you put up with this behavior to improve your resume, you own it. |
