Help with teen ocd

Anonymous
Teen mind all over the place. Socially isolates yet wants to hang out and interested in friends but doesn’t know how to reciprocate.
ADHD
Speech needs
Separation anxiety
OCD
16 year old

Asking for daily therapy. Any recommendations?

I understand. I realized that the combination of things is actually more common than I thought, especially for teens navigating ADHD and social anxiety. They want connection but don’t really know how to navigate it. We haven’t tried therapy (yet) but my daughter has been working with a coach - on social skills, confidence, executive function and so forth. It’s made a difference and she’s really benefited from the coaching support.

So hard op. I am sorry. I think finding therapist and a coach would be a starting point.

I agree. Therapist and coach would be a good starting point for sure. It’s hard.

Your post really resonated with me. The way you described your teen wanting connection but struggling with the social side is something I can really understand, and it can be so hard to watch as a parent. It can also feel pretty lonely trying to figure out how to support them through all of it. We were in this same situation with our son and it created a lot of drama at home.

He started working with a coach (he was already in therapy) and we’ve seen positive changes. They’re almost like a buffer between us which works really well. He’s comfortable with the coach, impressive since at 16 they don’t like any adults. Lol 😝

Just wanted you to know someone out here gets it and you’re not alone. If you ever want to connect, share experiences or want information about the coach, feel free to reply. Good luck!

Executive Function Coach. She’s phenomenal! We’d never used one before but now that my daughter’s working with one I can say it’s been very beneficial and I recommend it if you’re thinking about it. Wished we’d done it sooner. Hindsight 20/20. The coach my daughter’s been working with info: (Michelle) ExecutiveFunctionADHD@gmail. In case that’s helpful for someone!

OP it's hard for me to tell from your post: is your child on any medication? Are they already receiving therapy?

I have a teen with OCD, anxiety, and ADHD. Zoloft + cognitive behavioral therapy have been life-changing. She also receives help with executive functioning coaching through a program at her school (in addition to her academic accommodations).
