We are very new to lacrosse (first season) but just trying to get a feel for the opportunities as she gets older if she takes to it. I know every school and team is going to be different, but on your average VA public high school team how many play club lacrosse?
The reason I ask is because my daughter is on a local 3/4 Grade team that covers everyone in her high school pyramid. When the players all introduced themselves to each other last night at practice, about half went to public school and the other half private. Other than club players, the ones who are public would be the ones who might play on the high school team together. But since there were only around 30 girls total from the two teams at my daughter's age group, that didnt seem like enough since only 15 of them would go to the public high school together (plus maybe another 15 from the older 5/6 team) - assuming to one stops playing, that doesn't seem like a lot to put together a JV and V team unless there are lots of club players who don't play in the local rec league. None of this really matters or influenced anything, just me being curious. |
| Most I would say have anywhere from 5-10 girls on a club team. With that being said, not every club team is equal or has equal talent... |
Honestly, the vast majority of really good lacrosse players end up at private schools, generally leaving public schools with mainly lower-level club players or those who don't play club. So, if your daughter is very talented, you might want to consider private high school for better competition. Otherwise, she will likely still find opportunities at her local public school. |

In public school if every grade has 3 to 5 good players and 6 to 8 total players than you are fine.
JV is mostly filled with kids that are trying it for the first time or Freshman and Sophmore that aren't as talented. Good Fresh and Soph are on Varsity. Hence if each grade has 4 or 5 good kids you have 15 to 20 on a varsity team. You will have a few athletes that pick it up as a freshman and become good public HS Players because of their athleticism. |
