Switching Preschool - Threes to Fours

Anonymous
My child didn’t go to a preschool twos program. But he is currently in a threes program.

If he goes to a certain preschool for a threes program, and then switch to a different school for fours program, is this fine or does it look so bad?

How will a preschool exmissions department view it? In terms of recommending a child to kindergarten admissions, when they have only known the child for the fours program.

How will the kindergarten admissions view this if they see that an applicant attended a different preschool at threes and a different preschool at fours?

Will they even know that you switched schools? Or will they only see which ones child went to for fours program? Will they only care about the fours program the child went to and not care about the threes?

Just curious — is there a particular reason you’re thinking about changing schools?

If the move around age 3–4 is mainly for kindergarten admissions, I’ve heard it doesn’t always make a big difference. Since children who start a new preschool at 4 usually begin in September, the school may not have much time to really get to know them before supporting kindergarten applications.

And since many kids have already been there for years, schools sometimes prioritize families who’ve been part of the community longer. Just something I’ve heard and thought I’d share.

So if a child start fours program in September. And around the same time, the family will have to apply to kindergarten. The school have from September to early January (around 3 months) to know the child, and then to make and submit the ISAAGNY recommendation for the kindergarten program they are applying to. I do wonder if that’s indeed sufficient amount of time to know a child and make strong recommendation.

What kind of school is this, that told the parents they won’t vouch for the kids? Is it a standalone preschool, or is it an ongoing school with preschool/nursery program?

It's a feeder school. I think what they meant was they don't vouch for a kid - a specific kid, as they want to be fair to everyone.

All the preschools will comment about in the report is the timing from September-Nov/Dec the year they’re doing exmissions. Anything else prior to that doesn’t matter, so nothing to worry.

We sort of went through this… But one year leas, switched schools for 3s and did 2s elsewhere then applies out for PreK. There was no section on Ravenna to add a second previous school and it honestly didn’t even come up in interviews etc

This means the 4s school has no history from 3s from which to fill out the school report on the applicant.

Does the report have a section for the history from 3s?
