Ozempic and depression

Is there any reliable information pertaining to depression and Ozempic use?

Not much yet. There is some suggestion that it increases the risk for depression:

Possibly as s result of the same anhedonia that allows users to eat less and avoid other compulsive behaviors.

I’m the opposite. Have never been so anxious in my life. But that may be due to other issues vs the zep. Would be curious to hear from others if they think their anxiety/depressive tendencies have increased or decreased.

Yes, this has been studied, but is it possible you have anhedonia and not depression?

When you take away a coping mechanism (emotional eating/overeating) a person will be visited by their pain. The link between gastric bypass and new alcohol abuse is an example. So, you get skinny from glp 1, but now you are depressed and or anxious. Now you have to work on your issues, take psycho pharmaceuticals and or find another coping mechanism.

This makes sense. In my case, however, I was not an emotional/stress eater. I'm just dealing with losing weight that ballooned after surgery, and middle age made it harder to shed when the medical issue was resolved. Definitely feel significantly more depressed/anxious than I ever have. Again, it may have nothing to do with the GLP....

I've been on GLP1 for almost 5 years and was already on antidepressants and antianxiety medication for long before that. I noticed that my depression symptoms improved while my anxiety spiked a couple of times when the dose was too high. I want down in dosage and have no increased anxiety.

The poster who mentioned that you'll just substitute one addiction for another is totally clueless. These meds are being studied in treating all kinds of addictions (gambling, drinking, etc) and there is evidence that they are very helpful in treating them.

Wegovy did cause depression for me. I attributed to the brain signal for pleasure being dulled. My libido also went way down.
