Long weekend in November

Anonymous
Kids are 8, 11, and 13. Need a flight under 3 hours and under $300 per person if possible (or drive up to five hours) for a long weekend in early November.

We have been to Denver (too far anyway), Disney, NYC, Philly, and PR but basically nowhere else. Must be domestic.

We like water of all kinds, engineering, music, and animals. We don’t mind chilly but don’t want to ski/super cold.

My ideas so far:
- Chicago
- Boston
-Miami/Everglades
- New Orleans
-Pittsburgh (drive)
- St Louis
- Atlanta (basically for aquarium)

All ideas welcome!

Nashville.

Boston is beautiful in the fall and is usually “not light but not winter” coat weather.

Nashvegas is getting less appropriate for kids - a lot of bachelor and bachelorette parties and sloppy drinking.

I'd do Chicago or Boston.

Boston or Chicago. Or historic triangle & Norfolk area.

I've taken my kids to Chicago, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Nashville, Indy, San Antonio.

I'd vote St. Louis. The Arch is always great (it has a museum about the history and a film about how it was built), but also these are the perfect ages for City Museum and if you wait, the oldest might get too old. You can do Ted Drewes for custard, there's a Wild Bird Sanctuary (13 yo could handle a raptor and they get a long time with it), zoo is great, there are other museums, there's an aquarium too although we didn't have time to go, the botanical garden has a butterfly garden, I love the neighborhoods.

Me again. 2nd choice Atlanta. The Aquarium is awesome. Also College Football Hall of Fame, World of Coke, SkyView, MLK stuff, Carter Library World of Puppetry if anyone like Jim Henson (may be a bit young for your kids, but there's also a history of puppetry side). The zoo is supposed to be great, but I haven't done it. Have been to Stone Mountain pre-kids.

I wouldn't rule out San Antonio due to the flight time. It may cost over $300, but if you take an 8:00 am flight, you land before lunch and it's quick to get downtown. You could stay on the River Walk, which has a little boat tour. My kids loved San Antonio.

Given you mentioned water, St Louis has the riverboat cruise by the Arch. It's not the best riverfront by a long shot (I personally love it but I love run down things, lots of people don't), but it's always fun to be on a boat, you can see the Arch, and it does apparently run in November.

Me again again.... St Louis also has the Blues Museum which sometimes has live music. We stayed at the Embassy Suites near the Arch, and it's right there.

New Orleans would be fun for seeing alligators and music. Been there without kids.

Really feel like you can't go wrong with any if your choices, especially if your kids like cities. Have fun!!

I vote for Williamsburg, VA. One day touring Colonial Williamsburg, one day at Busch Gardens (make sure it is still open), half day touring Jamestown and spend the rest of that day enjoying the indoor pool (and potentially lots of outdoor activities if weather cooperates) if you stay at Kingsmill Resort.

Those all sound awful. New Orleans? Atlanta? Everglades are boring and filled with uneducated local rubes. How about Vancouver? Montreal? London is a short flight.

Pittsburgh would be great for you guys. I’m thinking of the Carnegie Center, the cog railway, lots of stuff to see.
