Just wondering if you've seen this be a soft hook for otherwise fully qualified kids.
If so, which school(s)? |
| I would like to believe that they do but I don't think that they care. |
| I went to the same college as my sister and the stuff I learned from visiting her did make it into my "why [college]" essay. |
| Princeton cares. I think ND cares. |
| UChicago cares as well. Both my kids got in RD, separate years. |
| ND does not seem to care, 4 nieces and nephews in short succession and 5th who had stats did not get in. I was very surprised…full-pay, successful kids. Parents very disgruntled now on school. |
My colleague's kid is a 6th generation ND legacy and did not get in. It was surprising to hear. And yes, I'm sure they donated as they have family money. |
| Harvard and Cornell care too, I believe. Anecdotally, the older siblings from our private who matriculated to Harvard and Cornell were very strong students and competitive for admission, whereas their siblings were weaker in comparison, likely to be denied/deferred without sibling legacy, but were still admitted. |
**younger siblings |
| Duke certainly cared in the case of the Seinfeld family . . . |
That was more likely due to them being Jerry’s kids, rather than siblings. Siblings without the Seinfeld name might get different results. Just maybe. |
| Think it’s a soft hook for Vanderbilt. |
| I know siblings at stanford, princeton, uchicago but then I also know families with students at those schools with siblings elsewhere.... |
| I know siblings ar Johns Hopkins |
you can't be too "rah rah football". they want kids who are there for academics primarily. we had a counselor that told my kid to rewrite the why ND essay bcs of this. Catholic service stuff is good too. But don't include: I've been tailgating since I was in diapers, a poster of xyz player was on my wall at age 6, or my granddad was buried in his ND quarter zip. They want you to talk about the course offerings in mid eastern history and the seminar with xyz professor looking at the history of whatever whatever |
