Ugh, shoe shopping

Anonymous
As a 32 year old woman, aren't I supposed to LOVE shoe shopping???

I don't. I have a 9 month old and when I've started trying to wear my fall/winter shoes I realized that my feet are bigger than pre-pregnancy. I guess the summer sandals didn't make this obvious before now. So now I need to replace almost all of my shoes. I went to DSW yesterday and only found one pair that I liked that was appropriate for my "chasing my crawling 9 month old" lifestyle. I know this makes me "low-class" on these boards, but I really don't like paying more than $50-$60 for shoes - especially since I have to buy so many.

Any tips on where to shop? I hate having to ask a salesperson to get me shoes and shopping on line seems like it wouldn't work well since I'm not totally sure of my size.

Blech.

It doesn't make you low class in my book. Low class would be to spend more than $50-60 is that's all you can afford. Living within your means is classy to me. Anyway, Marshall's sometimes has good sales on shoes. Macy's has some really comfortable shoes for the winter. They're all probably within that price range.

I've never liked shoe shopping because for me it always takes so long to find something I like. But anyway, OP, I'd not even worry about "class" issues. I mean, it's your budget and your needs that matter, and you're still willing to pay a respectable amount, I'd say, for new shoes. I'd try other department stores, too, where I've found good shoes, like JC Penney or Sears.

Try online. Order different sizes and see how it goes. It's free shipping at Zappos.com and you can read reviews about how comfortable the shoes are, plus you can wear them around the house on the carpet a bit longer until you figure out if they are keepers.

Try going to an outlet mall, which usually has all self-help shoe stores (like DSW) so you can just try on whatever you like without waiting. Potomac Mills must have at least a dozen shoe stores, including a huge one that is like DSW (but called something else, I forget).

I don't understand why you need so many? How many are we talking here? Now that I am a stay at home mom I have invested in a good pair of boots to wear with jeans (riding boots, no heal), a few pair of ballet flats which can be from target even if you can find a pair you like, and a pair of boat shoes. Def not a ton of shoes and def won't go out of style.

Boat shoes? Haven't seen those since the early '90s.

Really? Go hang out at any high school these days. Both my kids wear them.

OFF BROADWAY is kinda like DSW in Potomac Mills. I just went there and found cool boots for winter. I have wide small feet and very fat legs, almost impossible to find boots that fit.
No worries about asking sales people for sizes they're all there for you to try.

Marshall's is great, but for online shopping, I like endless shoes (www.endless.com).

I noticed a group of young people (college-aged) on the Metro the other day and about half had boat shoes. It really surprised me but apparently they are making a big comeback.
