Boston to Portland, ME

We’re planning a family trip (2 adults, 2 teen/tweens) to Boston around Memorial Day. We’d like to drive up the coast some and see a little of NH and Maine. I was thinking we could drive to Portland and back, spending one night there.
We could stop in Portsmouth, visit the Strawberry Banke Museum, see lighthouses, etc. Is 2 days/1 night enough time for this? Besides the Portland Head Light, what are some must-sees or suggested stops if you’ve been? Thanks. |

| Totally doable depending on how much time you want to spend in each place. Boston to Portsmouth is just a little over an hour and Portsmouth to Portland is a little under an hour. Might take a little longer for each since it will be a holiday weekend. |

The Portland Observatory is fun, although I think you have to take one of their scheduled tours?
A boat to Peaks Island is a nice way to see Casco Bay and spend an afternoon, although if you are there just for a short time maybe you’d rather stay in Portland itself. There is a very short ride on a narrow gauge railway which is nice if you keep expectations modest. |

I thought Old Orchard was tacky but many people like it. Sandbridge is my favorite Ogunquit beach way. Stop in York. From Portland drive the hour or so to Bar Harbor it’s worth it! |

| Born and raised in Maine, the OOB is the Myrtle Beach equivalent made me cackle and is so true. I will use that analogy going forward! |

It’s not even close. It’s a tenth of the size. It has a nice beach and it doesn’t have high rise hotels lining the beach. N |

Best hardware store! I was just there today. Non-stop show tunes on the sound system and a pretty good assortment of stuff. |
