The information is online. I just googled and it looks like 14 were on it last year. Rosters are online. My kid played at a different HS and if it’s similar, MANY more will show up for the tryouts.

About half of those who show up at the tryouts (at least one third) wonder what sport to sign up for in high school. They see volleyball on the list and wonder "How hard could it be to send a ball over the net?" They have a culture shock after the first few minutes and wish they never show up in the first place. Depending on how many club players show up at any high school, some beginners or rec players may get on the roster. Some will see the court, some will not, but they have the opportunity to train and figure out whether they want to continue with volleyball. Some get serious about it and join a club after the high school season. Others decide that volleyball is not for them and it is not worth trying to compete for the high school roster.

Every high school I know about does "open gyms" in the summertime. Your player should be able to get a sense from those how they stack up or not before tryouts.
