Health and Medicine
| I've never had this before, so it concerns me if these "symptoms" are part of a bigger change in my body (e.g., perimenopause). Just turned 37, and I try to stay fit though would like to increase my exercise regimen. In any case, over my last few menstruation cycles, I've observed that nearing the start of my period (or possibly on the first day or so), I have some discomfort/pain in either my hip area or even in the legs. It's hard to explain, but in the legs it's like pain in the muscle, as if I've overworked it (maybe like a lactic acid type of feeling). This leg pain was more so felt, though, on "use"; so, not if I'm idle, but say have tried to hike or jog/run. (Maybe I'm becoming more sensitive to something during this time of the month?) Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks ... |

I have....it ended up being referred pain from an ovarian cyst. I'd make an appointment and get an exam to rule that out.
The hip is a common place for referred pain from a variety of lower abdominal issues. Or you could just have good old fashioned hip pain .... maybe the start of some arthritis. |

Interesting, thanks for posting PP. I did some research about ovarian cysts, and I don't appear to have symptoms that are characteristic of having those. But I can see how various abdominal area issues might be related the hip area, as you point out.
I've also wondered if it's a sign I should take more calcium. If anyone else has their own related experiences to share, thanks in advance, too. |

OP - have you been pregnant recently? I'm experiencing something similar at 8 mos post partum and figured it was related to my hips/pelvis contracting to the normal width.
But now I feel like I should see a doctor. OB? Ortho? Who? |
| Hi PP, no, not pregnant yet, and that's also part of my concern, how I mentioned about perimenopause. In your case, though, it seems to be a legitimate consequence of having given birth. Maybe you could start with your OB, to get initial support/advice. |
